Big Ticket: Indian expat wins Range Rover, plans to sell for children’s education
The civil engineer from Tamil Nadu has been buying Big Ticket entries for almost 10 years
ABU DHABI: After nearly a decade of trying his luck, an Indian expat in the UAE has finally hit the jackpot, winning a luxury car in Abu Dhabi’s Big Ticket draw.
Babulingam Paul Thurai, a 39-year-old civil engineer from Tamil Nadu, won a Range Rover Velar during the Series 272 draw, the organisers announced on Monday.
A Sharjah resident for the past nine years, Thurai had been consistently purchasing raffle tickets, first with colleagues and later on his own. His persistence has now paid off with a grand prize.
“When I found out I had won, I was overwhelmed with happiness. It’s an incredible moment for me and my family,” Thurai shared.
Plans for the prize
Despite the thrill of winning, Thurai has decided not to keep the luxury vehicle. Instead, he plans to cash in the prize to settle financial commitments and invest in his children’s education.
“This win has given me a great sense of relief and hope,” he said. “My priority is to ensure a secure future for my children, so I will use the money wisely.”
However, the recent win does not mark the end of his participation. “I will definitely continue trying my luck with Big Ticket and encourage others to do the same. Keep believing, keep buying, and one day, your luck will shine too,” he added.

This March, one lucky ticket holder will walk away with a staggering Dh15 million grand prize. Additionally, 10 winners will receive Dh50,000 each during the live draw on April 3.
Those who purchase two or more cash tickets in a single transaction between March 1 and 25 will also qualify for the Big Win Contest. Four selected participants will be announced on April 1, with guaranteed cash prizes ranging from Dh20,000 to Dh150,000.
The upcoming draw also includes another Range Rover Velar, with the winner set to be revealed on May 3. Tickets are available online and at designated counters in Zayed International Airport and Al Ain Airport.
